Working with the Bill of Materials
The BOM: how quantities are auto-derived from the labeled roof, how to override them, and how unit costs roll up into the estimated materials cost.
The Bill of Materials is the auto-calculated material list for the job. It uses the project's roof area and edge labels to size every line and groups them into four categories — Panels, Fasteners, Trim, and Accessories.
Like the cut list, quantities include a 10% waste factor. When supplier pricing is available, the BOM also rolls each line into a unit cost and total, ending in an Estimated Materials Cost you can carry into the estimate.
How quantities are derived
- Panel counts come from the roof area and the panel width passed in from the cut sheet.
- Trim quantities are driven by the edge labels on the roof — ridge, eave, rake, valley, and hip lengths each map to a trim line.
- Fasteners and accessories scale off the panel and trim counts.
- The summary cards at the top show how many line items and what cost sits in each category.
Overriding quantities
- Click the edit icon on any row to type a manual quantity — useful when field conditions differ from the model.
- Overridden quantities show in blue so it is clear which numbers are no longer auto-calculated.
- Use the reset icon on a row, or Reset All in the header, to snap quantities back to the calculated values.
Override sparingly. Because quantities flow from the roof labels, fixing a wrong label upstream is usually better than patching the number here — the correction then carries into the cut sheet too.
Costs and export
- Unit Cost and Total columns only appear once pricing is attached to the items; without pricing the BOM still gives you accurate quantities.
- The Estimated Materials Cost at the bottom is the figure to drop into the Materials line of the estimate.
- Export CSV produces a full material list you can hand to a supplier or fabricator for a firm quote.
If you see "Square Footage Required", the roof has not been measured yet. Add an address and label the roof so the BOM can calculate.
